The Pharmies 2025: Corex Crowned Supplier of the Year

Each year, Healthcare sustainability champion Pharmacycle shines a spotlight on organisations and individuals making a real difference in blister pack recycling. Aptly named “The Pharmies,” this awards program recognises standout contributions—from community awareness campaigns to strategic partnerships—all playing a role in Australia’s mission to reduce pharmaceutical waste.

Announced on 27th August 2025, Corex was honoured with the Supplier of the Year award—a testament to our support of Pharmacycle’s recycling mission.

What Are The Pharmies?

Launched as a celebration of impact and innovation in recycling, The Pharmies salute achievements in categories like:

  • Community Champion of the Year
  • Strategic Partner of the Year
  • Outstanding Pharmacy
  • Sustainability Supplier of the Year, among others

These awards amplify success stories and inspire more partners to step up the efforts to divert blister packs from landfill.

Corex: 2025 Supplier of the Year

Announced on 27th August 2025, Corex was honoured with the Supplier of the Year award—a testament to our support of Pharmacycle’s recycling mission.

As the Sustainability Supplier of the Year, this accolade spotlights Corex’s integral role in strengthening the pharmaceutical recycling ecosystem. Our reliable delivery of high-quality retail recycling receptacles has empowered Pharmacycle to scale operations and smoothly serve drop-off partners.

What made Corex stand out?

Corex has worked alongside Phamacycle since the early days of their blister pack recycling mission.

We developed a range of Corflute® recycling receptacles (bins) for retailers in conjunction with brand manufacturers including Chemist Warehouse and Kenvue, Terry White, Blooms The Chemist, and National Pharmacies.

Every blister pack dropped off by consumers in the Corflute® bins at pharmacies are recycled. The purpose of this initiative is to provide a convenient way of returning empty blister packs in-store making recycling easy whilst avoiding empty packs ending up in landfill.

Corex’s Australian made Corflute® eco solution is the ideal choice due to its lightweight, strong, water-resistant, and sustainability credentials. Corflute® bins are reusable and permanent retail display solutions, lasting more than 150 return trips on average, compared to just 4-5 for a cardboard alternative.

Corflute® retail bins are designed using the principles of design for sustainability. Our designers worked with Phamacycle to ensure that we maximised materials, and minimised waste, ultimately producing an; Australian made, long lasting, lightweight, attractive, sustainable display solution for retailers.

The material ‘Corflute® eco’ is made from materials returned to our recycling facility, such as returned Corflute products and other polypropylene waste and off-cuts. Made from polypropylene, Corflute® eco can be recycled again and again. Corflute® eco is also Carbon Neutral Certified.

General attributes that supported our win:

  • Dependable coordination ensuring no delays in program operations.
  • Material expertise that elevated packaging and recycling processes.
  • Shared commitment to sustainability, aligning perfectly with Pharmacycle’s values.

Together, Pharmacycle and Corex are closing the loop on blister pack waste—turning returned medication packaging into raw materials for new products.

Why It Matters

By recognising suppliers like Corex, Pharmacycle not only celebrates success—it builds momentum. Supplier of the Year is more than a title—it’s a symbol of trust, innovation, and shared purpose. It reflects a partnership that reinforces supply chain excellence and supports environmental sustainability on a national scale.

What’s Next?

As Pharmacycle continues to expand—recently surpassing 92 million blister packs recycled and growing its network to more than 900 collection points—the role of Corex and the other key partners becomes increasingly vital.

Thank you Pharmacycle for our recognition as Supplier of the Year and for helping our country to advance toward your vision: an Australia where blister packs are recycled—not sent to landfill.

We look forward to continued collaboration, innovation, and a sustainable future, together!

Corex & Sustainability

Everything that Corex makes is invited back for recycling and reuse in our Corflute® and PROMEG® products.

What happens to the Corflute® returned to us?

  1. Corex Recycling process and recycle every kilogram of plastic received
  2. After processing the signage returned, the repelletised polypropylene
  3. All of the processed material returned to us from our customers had a use within Corex

Unfortunately, much of the ‘Corflute’ that is used around Australia is one of many overseas products. It’s not ours, and not made in Australia.

Recycling is not easy or without cost, but we encourage everyone to purchase Australian made Corflute® where possible to help us to create a truly circular product.

Corex is proudly Australian. Our products are designed for the circular economy.
